You’ll find gentle rides and interactive experiences for young builders and imaginations, and heart-stopping roller-coasters for those wanting an adrenaline rush.
Of course, no trip to Legoland Windsor is complete without attending the iconic Lego City Driving School, where young drivers can earn their very own Legoland driving license! In this article, we take a look at the top 10 rides at Legoland Windsor, covering each ride’s highlights, suitability for different age groups, and tips for making the most of your day out.
1. The Dragon
This is a classic roller-coaster ride with a splash of Lego thrown in. Your journey begins in a tunnel, where you can marvel at the many Lego models inside such as a king, queen, jester, crossbow-wielding guard and a medieval-themed castle.
You’ll also meet a large red dragon with smoke coming out of its mouth and nostrils before you’re hurled around the coaster’s track at breakneck speed, with plenty of twists and turns to send your stomach to the ceiling. It’s a must for older kids, teens, and adults.

2. Pirate Falls Treasure Quest
This is an old-school Legoland ride that’s been around for over 20 years. Because of its iconic history, it’s one of the most popular. Get in your own pirate ship and set sail – you’ll find yourself bobbing along in the water and taking in some of the most intricately-built Lego pirate models, including graves to people such as ‘Marcus a-plot’ – a pirate gravedigger. The scenery will certainly distract you before you whizz down a big drop to a large watery splash at the end. If the splash didn’t get you that soaked, beware of the jets of water that can catch you unawares!

3. Dragon’s Apprentice
For families with younger children, the Dragon’s Apprentice ride is a perfect alternative to the fully-grown Dragon. It’s a mini rollercoaster with twists, turns, and spirals giving you a perfect view of the Magical Kingdom Castle. There can be a bit of a wait for this ride, with an average of 45 minutes, which shows just how popular it can be especially during peak times.
Guests on the Dragon’s Apprentice are required to hold themselves upright without assistance and must hold onto handles, lap bars, and handrails.

4. DUPLO Dino Coaster
The Dino Coaster is great for little ones and is the world’s first DUPLO brick roller-coaster for young riders. It’ll give them a bit of a thrill as the ride speeds up, but it’s very gentle, making it great for introducing young children to more exciting rides.
Launched in 2022, this is a newly refurbished ride that often features very long queues in peak times (an average of 40 minutes), so have some snacks ready to keep kids entertained while you wait. With a minimum height of 0.9m, most 3-year-olds and some taller 2-year-olds will be able to ride. Children under this height must be accompanied by an adult.

5. Coastguard HQ
This next ride can have some of the longest queues in the entire Legoland Windsor park, so our top tip is to make it the first ride you go on, because otherwise, it may take two hours of queuing in peak season! On average, queues take around 30 minutes for Coastguard HQ; it just depends on when you visit.
It’s a fun and gentle boat ride that takes you around a boating lake where little ones can spot animals made of Lego. Parents can take up to two children with them per boat, and it’s suitable for all ages. You’re in control of directing the boat, which has steering and a power pedal.

6. Legoland Express
How about a train ride that takes you around the entire Legoland park? Not only will you see lots of interesting Lego animals, but at times you’ll be in for a fun squirting with water jets. (If you sit close to the back of the train, you’ll get some advanced warning of this!).
This one is ideal for the entire family, including those with babies. Your baby just needs to be able to sit up unaided. There are also some nearby water squirter pumps so those watching can give people on the train a good soaking!

7. Fairy Tale Brook
Located in the DuploValley, this adventure for little ones takes the form of a gentle water ride around giant Lego fairytale scenes. See if your child can spot Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Snow White, and Goldilocks along the way. The boats can take up to four people, so it’s ideal for grown-ups and children travelling together in larger groups.
It’s a peaceful ride and is a great way to calm down children who may have gotten too excited throughout the day. In terms of queue time, as four people can ride per boat, you’ll find that your turn will come around fairly quickly. The ride is suitable for all ages, as long as babies can sit up unaided. There’s even a buggy park too where you can leave your stroller while you ride.

8. Jolly Rocker
As an introduction to more grown-up theme park rides, you couldn’t do better than taking your budding buccaneers on this classic pirate ship ride found in the Pirate Shores area of the park. As a more exciting, thrilling ride, the Jolly Rocker is for older kids over eight years old and one meter tall, but they’ll still need a grown-up captain with them!
Sitting closer to the centre of the ship will be better for more nervous sailors, and adults must sit along the sides. Any potential pirates with health problems such as high blood pressure, broken bones, heart, neck or back problems, or those who are pregnant, are advised not to ride.

9. Fire Academy
The Fire Academy is more of a game than a ride, but it’s huge fun for all the family. The aim is to play as firefighters and power a Lego fire engine and hoses to put out a ‘fire’. It’s suitable for children and adults of all ages, and you’ll have to work together to aim the water canons, move the fire engine, and save the ‘burning’ building.
It’s a popular attraction at Legoland with typical wait times of around 45 minutes; there are two sets of 4 fire engines with the second set operating mainly during peak times.

10. The Flight of The Sky Lion
Part flight simulator, part flying theatre nestled at the heart of Lego Mythica, this attraction transports you to another world, bombarding you with incredible sights, sounds and smells. It’s a ride that includes monsters, dragons, the Alicorns and Hydra, and is very popular, so peak queues can be very long. The average wait time is 60 minutes for this ride, the longest wait time across all of the rides.
There are scan points along the queue, and downloading the Legoland app will stave off boredom with clever augmented reality experiences. Kids must be over one metre to enter, and, as the ride can be quite intense, those over eight will probably have the best experience.

11. L-Drivers
If you’ve ever wondered how your child might behave behind the wheel of their own car, head on down to Lego City, where those between 0.9 and 1.1 metres can learn how to drive their own electric car. The cars only fit one driver, so kids must be able to balance themselves without help and be able to operate the pedals and steering wheel.
An instructional video before the ride offers both information and directions on how the cars work, after which the kids are free to drive around an exciting recreation of Lego City. You’ll usually find short wait times for this attraction, so it’s a great option if you don’t feel like queueing.

12. Ferrari Build & Race Experience
Located in Bricktopia, this build-and-race experience gives aspiring mechanics and racers the chance to build their own Ferrari race car and drive it through three test tracks. Younger kids can use the Duplo zone to build their car, too.
Kids who love cars will have loads of fun making their own vehicle, and it’s an ideal activity for all ages. This is a new attraction, so queue times may be quite long. The plus side is that it’s sheltered from the rain should the Great British weather take a turn for the worse!
